Any movie that starts with the death of a dog is not my idea of a good time. Yes Virginia, Hazel is a boy dog!
If you’re expecting a really cool romantic story between the two leads, you might as well stay home. Blythe Danner is a gorgeous 70 year old widow. Her posse has Mary Kay Place, Rhea Perlman (from Cheers) and June Squibb (from Nebraska) playing a poor game of bridge. Along comes, She Who Must Be Obeyed’s heart throb – Sam Elloitt. Two dates later he drops dead. O crap, I am left with a wailing wife. O well, that’s the way I felt when they killed off Charlotte in Charlotte’s Web.
It was great to see Max Gail from Barney Miller in a minor role. This movie is only 92 minutes you might want to pass it by.

Big Block Buster.

If you want to see an entertaining action movie about dinosaurs , Jurassic World is a good option. Otherwise, it is pretty much the same as the others. I did like Chris Pratt (Owen) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire) and I always like to see Vincent D’Onofrio (Hoskins).

Is this just a rehash of Frankenstein? Mad scientists create monsters? Anyway they are very impressive. This is not a bad way to spend your time.

The name is Cooper, Susan Cooper ( Melissa McCarthy) and I’ll take my double tall non fat latte shaken not stirred. From the opening credits to the ending in bed this is a very funny spoof of James Bond movies.
It is really amazing how the balance is kept between the thrills and the laughs. She is dealing both with danger and awkward moments. She must field attacks with knives and bullets as adroitly as she has to defend her choices in attire. I loved the fight with the frying pan. There’s no wasted time here. It’s a kill or be killed world, and there’s no time for more than just a couple of quick returns by way of clever remarks.
Jason Statham (Rick Ford) is a riot as a chauvinistic colleague and Miranda Hart (Nancy B Artingstall) is excellent as the TALL friend. The eye candy is Rose Byrne (Rayna Boyanov), a sexy, spoiled and smart antagonist. Her acting and humor is absolutely spot on. Her blend of wickedness and charm in this movie is understated but subtly powerful.
Go you will enjoy.

Hard to fall asleep in this one. There are maybe ten or fifteen minutes in the whole movie where some sort of action isn’t happening. Earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, buildings collapsing, and of course, more earthquakes. That is what we were promised and that is what they delivered. Everyone will at least enjoy the visual side of what this movie has to offer.
Dwayne Johnson, the papa, adorable. Carla Gugino, the mama, adorable. Alexandra Daddario, the daughter, adorable. Hugo Johnstone-Burt, the boyfriend, adorable. Art Pakinson, boyfriend’s little brother, super adorable.
Go, you will enjoy the 114 minute run time.
